John Michael "Mike" Miller was born on November 30th, 1938 in Oakland, California to Wendell Anthony Miller and Kathryn Kelly.
[1][2]
He was named for his grandfather, John Miller, and his great uncle, Michael Clifford. He was colloquially called "Mike" to avoid confusion with his cousin, John Wendell Miller.
[3]
The Millers lived at 3926 Forrest Hill Avenue in Oakland.
[3]
Mike was baptized in St. Jarlath's Church on January 15th, 1939 by Reverend John Y. Connery, and his godparents were Michael Clifford (his paternal grandmother's brother) and Gertrude Quirk (his paternal grandmother's cousin).
In August 1948 the Millers moved three miles west to a nicer neighborhood and home at 3997 Oakmore Road.
[3]
By 1950 Mike's great-uncle, William Sexton, moved in with the family.
[4]
In July 1965, Mike and Marilyn were issued a building permit for the construction of a house at 540 Blackstone Court, valued at $18,100.
[5]
Their home was built by Belner Builders and was completed by November, when the Millers moved in.
[6]
The Millers obtained a permit for an $8,100 addition in June 1971, eighteen months after the birth of their fourth child (not counting Mark Christopher).
[7]
He passed away in 2016.
