Hi, Hugh, Details on this ancestor are limited; he was a brother to my great great grandmother, Eliza D. Milstead (Hennigan). Not only was Eliza's brother named John, but also her father (b. 1815 Ala) and father's father (b. 1785 Va; died 1860 in Pensacola, Fla). Eliza's grandfather, John, was a son of Aaron Milstead (b. 1760 Va; died 1816 MS?). Aaron's dad was Joseph Milstead, Sr, son of William, who was the son of Edward Milstead (b. 1656 England). It looks like my Milstead ancestors began there American journey in Maryland, traveled to Virginia and then further south to Mississippi, Florida and Louisiana. Why anyone would leave Pensacola for Rapdies Parish, LA is beyond me, but there you have it. Hope this is some help (if my lineage is correct).
