Mellen was born in 1811 in Vermont.^[1]

He married 19 Dec 1840 at Scituate to Mary Sprague.^[2]

In 1860 Melen was, living in South Scituate, keeping an Alms House.^[1]

Notes

The above 1860 Census also shows a Franklin H Minot, age 5. Possibly a relative or adoptee. Mary (Sprague) Minot would have been 45 at the time of his birth, while not impossible, but probably not his mother. No birth was found in the Vital Records of Scituate.

Lincoln's History of the Town of Hingham, Massachusetts (The Town of Hingham, Massachusetts, 1893) Vol III, p. 178 indicated that Mellen and Mary moved to St Charles, Illinois, no census detail found to support this.
