Biography

Thomas was born in 1875. He is the son of Eli Mitchell & Harriet Thompson. [1]

He married Elizabeth Ann Scott in April 1900 [2]

WEDDING
A very pretty wedding was celebrated at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Geraldine, on Thursday last, the contracting parties being Miss E. Scott, eldest daughter of Mr H. Scott, " Greenvale," Geraldine, and Mr T. Mitchell, oldest son of the late Mr E. Mitchell, Waitohi. The bride was attired in a pretty silver-grey cloth, trimmed with with white silk ribbon and chiffon, with veil stream and orange blossoms, and carried a beautiful bouquet. The bridesmaids were the Misses Mary and Sarah Scott, sister of the bride, and were dressed in brown, trimmed with satin ribbon and chiffon ; the best man was Mr J. Horsman step-brother of the bridegroom. After the ceremony the party proceeded to "Greenvale," where an excellent spread was provided for the 40 couples attending, in a large marquee at the rear of the house. After the dinner the usual toasts were proposed and honored. The Rev. S. Hamilton, in a neat speech, proposed the toast of the bride and bridegroom, to which the bridegroom replied in a happy speech; Mr McColl proposed that of the bridesmaids and best man, and Mr and Mrs U. Scott. Mr E. Logan also gave a short and humorous speech. In the evening the marquee was cleared for dancing, which was carried on until the small hours of the morning to music supplied by Messrs 0. Wells (violin), H. Patrick (accordion), and E. Crow (piano). Songs were contributed by Mesdames Mitchell, Scott, Crow, Misses Scott and Franks, and Messrs Fifield, H. Patrick, and C. Wells. The piano was kindly lent for the occasion by Mr McColl. The presents, which were numerous, and many of them costly, were as follows : Bridegroom to bride, duchesse dressing table and gold brooch; bride to bridegroom, sleeve link's; bridegroom to bridesmaids, gold brooches; Mr H. Scott, cheque; Mrs Scott, iron bedstead; Miss M, Scott, set of towels; Miss J. Scott, jam dish; Miss Lilly Scott, ink stand and outfit; Master E. Scott, pair gilt frames; Miss Hilda Scott, brush and ornament; Mrs Eli Mitchell, spring mattress; Miss H. Mitchell, pair vases; Miss M. Mitchell, set of jugs; Mr and Mrs W. Beattie, dish and moustache cup; Master T. Mitchell, tea caddie and tea; Mr J. Horsman, set of irons; Mr and Mrs H. Patrick, fancy flower pots; Mr Z. Kay, teapot and knives; Mr and Miss Franks, spoons and forks; Mr and Mrs E. Crow, fancy flower baskets; Mr and Mrs Fred. Parke, bamboo table; Mr and Mrs J. T. Austin, afternoon tea set; Mrs Nesbitt, pair candlesticks; Mr A. Fifield, cups and saucers; Mr P. Thomas died in 1956 aged 80 years[10] He is buried in the Geraldine Cemetery with his wife Elizabeth.[2]
