Thomas was born in 1875. He is the son of Eli Mitchell & Harriet Thompson. [1]

WEDDING
A very pretty wedding was celebrated at St. Mary's Anglican Church, Geraldine, on Thursday last, the contracting parties being Miss E. Scott, eldest daughter of Mr H. Scott, " Greenvale," Geraldine, and Mr T. Mitchell, oldest son of the late Mr E. Mitchell, Waitohi. The bride was attired in a pretty silver-grey cloth, trimmed with with white silk ribbon and chiffon, with veil stream and orange blossoms, and carried a beautiful bouquet. The bridesmaids were the Misses Mary and Sarah Scott, sister of the bride, and were dressed in brown, trimmed with satin ribbon and chiffon ; the best man was Mr J. Horsman step-brother of the bridegroom. After the ceremony the party proceeded to "Greenvale," where an excellent spread was provided for the 40 couples attending, in a large marquee at the rear of the house. After the dinner the usual toasts were proposed and honored. The Rev. S. Hamilton, in a neat speech, proposed the toast of the bride and bridegroom, to which the bridegroom replied in a happy speech; Mr McColl proposed that of the bridesmaids and best man, and Mr and Mrs U. Scott. Mr E. Logan also gave a short and humorous speech. In the evening the marquee was cleared for dancing, which was carried on until the small hours of the morning to music supplied by Messrs 0. Wells (violin), H. Patrick (accordion), and E. Crow (piano). Songs were contributed by Mesdames Mitchell, Scott, Crow, Misses Scott and Franks, and Messrs Fifield, H. Patrick, and C. Wells. The piano was kindly lent for the occasion by Mr McColl.

Thomas died in 1956 aged 80 years[10] He is buried in the Geraldine Cemetery with his wife Elizabeth.[2]
