In 1892, Frances Atkins, aged 35, a music teacher, was living in Middletown, Delaware, New York, with her husband, John Atkins, aged 37, and children, Edith Atkins, aged 9, and Howard Atkins, aged 8.
It appears that Frances and John separated between 1892 and 1900.
In 1900, Frances M. Mitchell, aged 41, a music teacher, married for 18 years, born October 1858, was living at 113 Hasbrouck Avenue, Kingston, Ulster, New York, with her daughter, Edith E. Mitchell, aged 17, also a music teacher, born May 1883. [6]
