Biography
Jemima Moats was born in 1829 in Washington, Maryland, daughter of Joseph P. Moats (1792 - ~1875) and Hannah (James) Moats (~1800 - ~1868).
In the 1850 census Jemima Moats (age 21) was in Washington Township, Clinton, Ohio.[1] Did the enumerator simply assume the children were born in Ohio? All later census records show Jemima was born in Maryland.

Jemima Moats (age 18) married John B Terry (age 21) on 11 March 1856 in Knox, Illinois.[2][3] Note: It is unusual, to say the least, that Jemima was said to be 21 in the 1850 census but then was only 18 six years later when she married. In the 1860 census she was reported to be 30, so it seems the marriage record was perhaps mistaken.
In the 1860 census Jemimah Terry (age 30) was in Indian Point Township, Knox, Illinois.[4]

In the 1870 census Jennie Terry (age 41) was in Chestnut Township, Knox, Illinois.[5]

In 1880 it appears that the family was enumerated twice, in two different enumeration districts within the same county, almost 3 weeks apart. Perhaps there was some overlap between the areas? In the first enumeration it seems there was some confusion on the relationships of the family members.
In the 1880 census Jemmah Terry (age 51) was the wife of John B. Terry in Chestnut Township, Knox, Illinois.[6]
