On June 6, 1985, Lucy Ceynowa and Ann Mohr, the only survivors of the peter Mohr familly, informed us of their interesting past history. Together we composed the following account
Peter Mohr was born on June 3rd, 1855, in Sheboygan, Wisconsin. He was the son of Frederick Mohr, who came to Perham from Wisconsin with his five children, Peter, John, Nick, Fred, and Mary. Peter's mother died in Shebogan, Wisconsin. Peter was fourteeen years old when the family moved to Perham in 1869. At that time, Perham was not yet named. Only Indians were living here then. The family traveled by oxen to Minnesota
Another well-know family, who settled at the same time were the Frisches. Susan Frisch was one year old when she came with her family. Peter Mohr's father homesteaded land where the Lena Mohr farm is now. There they buildt a log house. Perham did not exist, as yet., nor did any railroads go through until 1871.
There were many indians in the area. The family practically learned the indian language. Peter could speak it well. for food, the family used to bargain with the indians. For special supplies of food, they traveled to St. Cloud with oxen.
