Biography

Charles was born in 1875 in Laurinburg, Richmond County. In 1899, the area became Scotland County. He was the son of Neil Monroe and Caroline McQuage. He married Anne Belle Black about 1901 or 1902 They had 2 sons: Neil Douglas and Roy Clyde, and 2 daughters: Annie May, who lived and died in 1912, and Minnie. His wife Anne passed in 1912 also, possibly due to problems during or after childbirth of daughter, Annie May. In the 1930 Census for Williamsons, Scotland Count, NC, he is described as a widower and a general farmer. He passed away in 1931 at Laurel Hill, Scotland County, NC.
