John was born on 22 March 1844 in Rappahannock, Virginia, United States. He was the son of James Moore and Maria Deatherage.[1]

In 1880 John (age about 35) was living in Wakefield District, Rappahannock, Virginia, United States.

John was buried after 8 December 1896 in Rock Hill Farm, Rappahannock, Virginia, United States.

"We are now troubling ourselves about John for fear he will have to go in the Army - he intended going to the Militiary Institute at Lexington, but he was too late in applying, the school was full. They are trying to establish a Military school at "Randolph Macon College." He has applied there, but has not heard yet." [Letter Patti Moore to Jane Wood 10 Feb 1862].
