Henry Bryant Morgan, son of Henry Bradshaw Morgan and father of Henry Bryant Morgan, Jr., was born on October 15, 1892 in Lynchburg and died on August 11, 1978 in Mountain Home, TN at the Veterans Home. He is buried in the Lynchburg City Cemetery. Henry was born when his father was 49 and his mother was 46, so I imagine he was a surprise. His sister Jessie Boone was 20 years old when he was born. Henry served in the Army during WW1. Henry married Maude Stone Moore on September 15, 1920 in Fayetteville, TN. A son, Henry Bryant Morgan, Jr., was born on April 27, 1924. Henry lost his wife to tuberculosis in 1926. Apparently, unable to raise his son on his own, he allowed Mary Boone Billingsly Tong, his niece, to raise Bryant. I always knew my grandfather as ‘Uncle Henry’, learning in my teens that he was my real grandfather. Henry was an alcoholic and lived a somewhat nomadic life. I don’t remember spending much time with Henry as I was growing up. I have records that he was employed by the U. S. Service Command at Brookley Field in Mobile, Alabama in 1957. Records also indicate that he was living at the Veterans Home in Mountain Home in 1970. I consider his life a rather sad one. [1]
