Biography

Mary was born about 1834. She passed away in 1878.

  • Resided at Woolshed Vic. at time of marriage.
  • Notice of Marriage in the Ovens & Murray Advertiser, Page 2 lists Mary as the 7th daughter of Michael and Anne.
  • Given Mary is the 7th daughter of Michael and Anne.

Based on her age when married (23 on 1 Apr 1857) she was born in 1834. This would make her 21/2 - 3 on bording the Lady McNaughton which corresponds to Maria on the ship manifest. In Ireland 'Maria' is/can be used for 'Mary" hence the use of Mary. In the book 'Quarantined' McIntyre and Rushen identified two children who did not board the Lady McNaughton (Page 150) I believe one of these, the unknown female, is in fact Mary baptised on 17 Dec 1834 but listed as Maria (5th daughter) on the Ship Manifest. Therefor the two daughters who did not board the Lady McNaughton were Maria and Catherine who perhaps died before departure ane before 1834 when Maria (2) was born. the name Maria or Mary was used again as was Catherine (born in Sydney).
