Biography

George Morrison was a Tennessean.

George was born in 1856 in Marion County, Tennessee ^[1]

After his father's death in 1865, the family returned to Marion County and lived with George's uncle, George Jackson. ^[2]

George married his first cousin, Nancy Ellen Floyd, in 1878. Their marriage was initially protested by Nancy's parents, and a physical altercation supposedly ensued between George and his father-in-law. The struggle ended with George holding a gun to Ellen's father's head and declaring that he would be marrying her and would take down anyone standing his way. ^{[2] [3]}

Despite the controversial start, George's standing apparently improved, and he became a respected and well-liked member of the family. George and Nancy Ellen had four children together, whom they raised in "the Pocket" community atop Whitwell Mountain. ^{[2] [3]}

George was a farmer by trade and owned his land free of mortgage in 1900. His property was located in the 2nd Civil District at the time enumeration.^[3]

He passed away about 1934.
