So far known, the family Muys comes from 'Alblasserdam'. But potentially the origins can be from somewhere else. All over the Netherlands, the surname Muys/Muijs/Muis appears. While searching for a potential match I discovered that 'Meussgen and Meuss' could be the first name. This means that Muys could have originated from a person's first name. In the Netherlands it was common to use the first name of someone's father as a patronym, which would often end up as someone's surname. The name Meus was a shortcut of the name: Bartholomeus. [1]
