In the 1950 census Melvin (age 36) was the married head of household in Gainesville, Alachua, Florida, United States.^[3]

Melvin died (age 59) on 24 July 1972 in Alachua, Florida, United States.^[4] Burial was in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Gainesville, Alachua County, Florida.^[5]
