Some thought he must be the son of Silas in whose household he was raised. Others said he was the out-of-wedlock son of Silas' sister Elizabeth by someone ... some strongly believe he was an otherwise unidentified man named Roe B. Spurlock. Others believe he might have been a out-of-wedlock son of Silas' wife Gincy, fathered by some unknown male prior to Silas and Gincy's marriage. Spurlock folk abounded in the area, but I have never found a trace of Roe. Then in 2004 one of William's male line descendants had his DNA tested. His Y-DNA, which only goes from father to son and so forth through the years and centuries, not Casebolt DNA (of which we now have several samples). So it would seem that William was definitely not Silas' son, unless Silas himself was not fathered by a Casebolt (there is considerable evidence that he was). To nail this we need a DNA sample from some male known to be in a male line of descent from Silas. Curiously, the DNA of the descendant of William matched extremely closely that of male descendants of one Nathaniel Morgan of North Carolina. Now there were Morgans in the area.William C. b. 1785 and his father are said to have been murdered here in 1813. WCM is said to have married in 1798 (at his age 12 or 13????!!) Susanna Spurlock and had 3 children by here: Mary, David and Anne. Apparently he during the same period fathered two children out-of-wedlock with one Elizabeth Salisbury: Morgan and William. The son Morgan is said to have had a son out-of-wedlock with one Darcus Patton in 1834 whom they named Wiley Patton ... Morgan later married Arty Spurlock and had more children. Son William died in 1848 having married Polly Saylers who already had a son Reuben b. 1825 plus twins William and Fanny b. 1836. I have tried to find these people in census reports. The only two I found were Morgan in 1850 in Floyd Co, Reuben 25, Susannah 22, Wiley 8/12; and David 45, Nelly 40, Thomas 20, Reuben 18, Eleanor 16, David 14, William 12, Dorothy 8, James H.P. 6, John G 3.
