Biography

Robert was born in 1926. He is the son of John Nankivell and Jane Cole^[1].

Robert passed away in 2012^{[1] [2]}and was buried at West Creek Cemetery, Colorado^[3][4].

ROBERT ALBERT NANKIVELL, 86, of Pullman, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012 at Bishop Place Assisted Living Center in Pullman, WA. Robert was born Oct. 20, 1926 in Gettysburg, S. Dakota to John & Jane (Cole) Nankivell.

As a child he moved with his family, living in Illinois, South Carolina, Panama, Portland, OR & Denver, CO where he, graduated from South High School in Denver in 1945. Bob attended the University of Denver for several years and in 1948, married Helen Stewart. He served in the US Air Force for twenty years, retiring in 1970 as a Master Sergeant. Bob originally joined the Army Air Corp in 1945 and was discharged at the end of WWII. He re-enlisted in the Air Force, serving at Lowry AFB, Colorado from 1951-1956 where he flew on B-25's and B-29's following which he was stationed at Rhein Main AFB, Germany from 1956-1958 flying B-50's. Following Germany, Bob was assigned to Fairchild AFB, Washington until 1966 where he flew on B-52's. His last assignment was at Castle AFB, California where he served on a B-52 stand board crew until his retirement in 1970.

Bob went to work for John Roth Chevrolet in Merced, CA following his career in the Air Force. He worked as a Sales Manager for the dealership until retiring in 1988. In 1991 Bob & Helen moved to Woodland Park, Colorado where they made their home until moving to Pullman, WA in 2011.

Bob & Helen traveled extensively, taking several cruises and making trips to Europe & Mexico. They also made several cross-country driving trips, visiting many well known and not-so-well known historic places in all 50 states. Bob, Helen and the kids spent many summers camping at the lake with their friends, enjoying cook-outs, campfires, long boat rides and teaching family and friends how to water ski. He spent many hours tending his rose garden in California, reading and fishing. Bob loved following his favorite college and professional football teams and supporting his son Bob and Team 49 at the Colorado Hill Climb races. Bob & Helen lived in the mountains of Colorado for 20 years and were known as Mom & Pops to the wonderful friends they met there. Bob and their yellow lab, Daisy, loved taking daily walks together near their property. Bob is survived by his wife Helen of Pullman, WA; his son Robert Nankivell (Gesche) of Westcreek, CO; his daughter Debra Nankivell of Pullman, WA; a grandson Rob Braughton; one nephew Ted Quayle (Thelma) of Tucson, AZ. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Edward (Ted) Nankivell; and sisters Jessie Quayle & Bernice Stone.
