Harvey Joseph Nantais was born Hervé Nantais in Ontario, Canada. He was the first son of Adolphe Nantais and Julie Bessette. His brother was born in 1895, and his father died in 1896. Harvey is listed in the 1901 Census of Canada as stepson of Leon Lacroix, whom Julie married after the death of Adolphe. (He is written as Hervy and transcribed as Herry.) Harvey immigrated with his mother and brother to the United States between 1901 and 1910, when he appears in the U.S. Federal Census (written as Herve and transcribed as Ervin.) Harvey's immigration date is listed as 1910 in the 1920 U.S. Federal Census, but notes in my father's personal papers lists November of 1902 as his father Harvey's date of entry into Detroit, Michigan. These notes list his date of naturalization as 28 Sept 1920, Certificate #1500412. The first proven use of Harvey as his official name is his 2017 draft registration.
