He graduated from Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina in 1937 and attended the Gammon Theological Seminary in Atlanta.
His daughter, Juanita, was born about 1928 in South Carolina, and is enumerated with Wesley in the 1930 census. Juanita's surname is given as Gonzalez, and she is "of Washington", in Wesley's 1982 obituary.
He served as a chaplain in the U.S. Army during World War II, retiring with a rank of Captain.
After the war, he pastored many A.M.E. churches in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC. for almost 40 years. For some time he was the presiding elder of the Capital District of the Washington Conference of the A.M.E. church.
He passed away in 1982 at a Veteran's hospital in Washington, D.C. He was survived by his wife, the former Eloise Wright, a daughter and grandchildren.
