Biography

Gwendeline Christina Jean Needham was born on 24th August 1915 at Port Elliot, South Australia, Australia. She was the daughter of Victor Needham and Emma Kenny. ^[1]

Gwendolin Christina Jean Needham died, age 11, at the Children's Hospital, North Adelaide, South Australia, Australia. ^[2] Her death was announced in "The Register"on Wednesday 27th April 1927.

"Needham.— On the 20th April, at the Children's Hospital, North Adelaide, Gwendolen, the eldest beloved daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Victor Needham, of Yankalilla, aged 11 years and 9 months. Peacefully Sleeping." ^[3]

She was buried at Yankalilla Public Cemetery, South Australia, Australia.^[4]

Research Notes

The spelling of her first name was "Gwendeline" on the birth registration, "Gwendolin" on the death registration, "Gwendolen" on the newspaper death notice and "Gwendoline" on the FAG memorial. The problem was solved by the parents who named her "Gwen" on her gravestone. The birth registration must take preference but I can certainly see why the FAG memorial uses the more conventional spelling of the name. It's a guess to know which spelling the parents intended and no doubt Editbot will pick up on the unique name.
