Biography
John was born in 1819 at Cadwell, Holwell, Bedfordshire, and baptised on 5 Sep 1819 at Ickleford, Hertfordshire, the son of Thomas Newberry and Mary Oakley.[1]
He married Alice Field on 15 October 1840 at Hitchin, Hertfordshire.[2]

In 1841 they were living at New Town, Hitchin, Herts - John Newberry 20; Alice Newberry 20; George Newberry 1 mth. All b Herts. Living next door to William and Charlotte Oakley, John's grandparents.[3]
They were living at Plumstead, Kent in 1851 - John Newberry head marr 31 Smith Royal Arsenal b Holywell, Beds; Alice Newberry wife 32 b Willian, Herts; George Newberry son 9 scholar b Holywell; Alice Newberry dau 7 b Hitchin; Ann Newberry dau 5 b Hitchin; John Newberry son 3 b Woolwich Kent.[4]
In the 1861 census the family was still living at Plumstead, Kent - John Newbury head marr 41 Smith b Cadwell Beds; Alice Newbury wife 42 b Willian, Herts; George Newbury son 19 turner b Cadwell; John Newbury son 13 b Woolwich Kent; Charles Newbury son 8 b Plumstead; James Newbury son 4 b Plumstead.[5]
He died in the September quarter 1901 in Greenwich reg district, age 81.[6]
