Biography

Colleen was born in 1931. She was the daughter of Emery Arnold Nicholes and Vivian Lydia Larson.

She married:

  1. Lewis "LJ" Peterson, 14 Oct 1949
  2. Darwin Berry Cannon, 2 Feb 1973

She passed away in 2020.

Our beloved mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend Colleen Ruth Nicholes Peterson Cannon, 88, passed away peacefully at her home in Centerfield, Utah on Monday, March 2, 2020.
She was born April 4, 1931 in American Fork, Utah the daughter of Emery A. and Vivian Larson Nicholes. She was the second of five children in her family.
Colleen grew up in American Fork enjoyed playing the violin, piano, and singing. She loved to read. She graduated from American Fork High School in 1949. She was Miss Woolgrowers in the Steel Days Parade of 1949.
On October 14, 1949 she married L J “Pete” Peterson and they were blessed with eight children together and later divorced. She married Darwin “Skip” Cannon February 2, 1973 later divorced. She later married and was sealed to L J Peterson in the Provo Temple.
Colleen had a great work ethic and had many versatile jobs but her last job was for the Tooele Army Depot where she retired. She was always active and loved to read and dreamed of having a bookstore. Her dream came true after retiring and opened a bookstore in her home called, “Nick’s Book Exchange”.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She had many callings some of her favorites were being a coach of the girl’s teams, a Stake Missionary for the American Fork West Stake and various Relief Society positions. She loved being in the ward choir. She was also a member a Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, FOE, and chapter president of NARFE(National Association of Retired Federal Employees). She enjoyed being a pink lady at the American Fork Hospital. Some of her greatest joys were reading, fishing, camping, traveling and spending time with her dear family.
She is survived by her children, Jane (Monty) Banks, Carla Jean Christen, Jay Peterson, Matthew J. (Nita) Peterson, Judy P. Powell and her two brothers Perry Nicholes and Steven (Gloria) Nicholes, 27 grandchildren, 77 great grandchildren and 41 great-great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her loving parents, husbands L J Peterson and Darwin B. Cannon, children Diana, Roy and James Nicholes Peterson, and brother Vern Nicholes.
Our family would like to thank the Gunnison Valley Home Health/Hospice who helped take care of our mother with caring compassion. We wish also to thank the Centerfield 2nd Ward Relief Society for their compassion and service.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 11:00 am in the Wing Mortuary Chapel, 118 East Main, Lehi, Utah. Friends may call Friday evening from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Wing Mortuary and Saturday morning from 10:00 am to 11:00 am prior to the service. Interment, Lehi City Cemetery.
