Biography

Elizabeth Henrietta Noble was born June 20, 1782, and christened September 21, 1782, in the Church of England, at the British Factory Chaplaincy, in Lisbon, Lisboa, Portugal. ^[1] The British Factory House (Portuguese: Feitoria Inglesa), also known as the British Association House) is an 18th-century Neo-Palladian building located in the northern Portuguese centre of Porto, associated with the influence of Britain in the Porto Wine industry. This indicates that Elizbeth's father was a wine merchant and a British Citizen.

On June 8, 1803, in Lisboa, Portugal, Elizabeth Henrietta Noble married Captain Kenneth Scobie of the Royal Marines, ^[2] a son of Major John Scobie and Barbara MacKay. ^[3] Elizabeth and Kenneth made their residence in Inverness-shire, Scotland. One of their daughters, was named "Kennethina" in honor of her father. The notice of her pending marriage was published February 22, 1848, in the Inverness Courier. Her husband to be was Edward Maybery, Esq. of the Honourable East India Company (H.E.I.C.) ^[4]
