Research Notes

According to an unsourced posting on FindAGrave for Rebecca's mother Martha, Ned and his wife and children and mother Patty were born in Africa and were brought by boat to Jamestown, Virginia. At some point they were sold to slave owner John D. Dubose and brought to Gonzales, Texas around 1860 (1859?), where John had a farm and also operated a grocery store. In 1871, John Dubose's son David and his wife Elizabeth soled Ned a 60 acre parcel of land in what is known as the Terryville Community. Rebecca and some of her siblings were born in Texas.
