Biography
Emelius Morancy Noland
Son of Joseph Noland and Victoria Morancy, he was born in October 1856,[1] in Omega, Madison Parish. He died in Sondheimer, East Carroll Parish, Louisiana on 26 June 1941, "86y 7m 25d".[2]
Mistaken Identities
The death record transcribed by FamilySearch (image not available online) has him as "Emaline" Morancy Noland.[2]
Between census takers misrecording his name (in 1870 he was Edward [away at school, age 14])[3] and sex (in 1860, when he was recorded as Amelia, age 5)[4] and transcription errors (Emelius W. in 1900), it took compiling a list of Joseph and Victoria's children to discover this.
The FS transcription of the 1900 census is the closest to what is probably correct - transcribed as Emelius W. Noland, born October 1856 in Louisiana (father born Mississippi & mother born Louisiana). An examination of the image reveals an apparent misreading the middle initial of "M".[1]
