Richard Norrish was born in 1835 at Ennikillen Northern Ireland. He was the first born of Richard and Honora Norrish. His father was an infantry soldier in 96th Regiment. He was the son of Richard Norrish and Honora Regan. Richard accompanied his parents and siblings to Tasmania in the early 1840s when his father was posted there to guard convicts.
In 1847 Richard accompanied his family to Western Australia where his father was in charge of Kojonup Barracks.
In 1850 the family took up land at Warkelup near Kojonup and Richard grew up as a farmer.
In 1863 Richard married at Kojonup Ellen Malone. They farmed at Marleyup near Broomehill.
He died 1 Feb 1886 at the residence of his brother in Albany. He was only 51 and the newspaper report stated he died from the effects of fighting a bush fire the previous day.
Richard was buried at Allambie Park Cemetery Albany.
