Biography

William was born about 1833 in Ireland. [1] [2]

Apparently, William and his family were visiting relatives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania when William got lost from his parents. [2] According to family story he couldn't be found and ended up in an orphanage; at the age of 14 Daniel Seybert took him from the orphanage to be a "bond boy" and work at his farm near Berwick, PA until his 21st birthday. By 1850 he was working as a laborer on the Seybert farm in Salem Township, Luzerne, PA. [3]

He met his future wife Nancy while working at the Seybert farm. They were married in 1860 and they continued living with Daniel Seybert in Salem Township, Luzerne, PA where William was working as a farmer. [4]

In 1870 William and his family were still living in Beach Haven, Salem Township, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania. [1] In 1900, they owned a home in Berwick borough, Columbia County, PA. [5]

William passed away on March 15th, 1903. [6] He died of blood poisoning that developed from burns he acquired working in the pipe foundry. [7] He is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery in Berwick, Columbia, PA. [8]
