Theodore Roosevelt O'Flaherty was born on July 31st, 1904 in Back Creek, Frederick, Virginia, United States, son of John Cullers O'Flaherty and Mary Elizabeth Glenn.
Ted contracted tuberculosis in 1934 and while in the TB sanatorium during cold weather he also contracted pneumonia and passed away on December 30, 1934.
Ted was the tallest in the family at 6' 7" and went all the way down to the youngest, Dave, who was the shortest at 6 feet. Dave's nickname was "Rut" because he always looked like he was standing in a rut while next to his family…even his sister Ophelia was taller than he. Ted was closest to Roscoe. There is a picture of Roscoe pulling Ted in a manual-driven cart as Roscoe was an Al Smith man while Ted was for the winner, Herbert Hoover.
From his obituary in the Washington Post, December, 30, 1934, THEODORE R., beloved husband of Mary Belle Windle and son of John and Mary E. O'Flaherty. Funeral services were held at Epworth Methodist Episcopal Church South, Thirteenth street and North Carolina avenue northeast on Wednesday, January 2, 1935.
