Father Cullen, the contracting parties being Miss Marie O'Haran, eldest daughter of Mr. John O'Haran, of Ellalong, and Mr. Thomas Gollan, second youngest son of the late Mr. Colin Gollan, of Stanhope, Branxton. It is with profound regret we have to chronicle tho death of Mary; beloved wife of Thomas A. Gollan, of Allandale-road, Cessnock, which sudden and tragic end came at her residence on Tuesday evening, September 1, after a brief illness of four days. The deceased lady was taken suddenly ill on Saturday morning, August 29, with gastric influenza. On Sunday septic influenza set in, accompanied by unconsciousness, which caused her relatives and friends the gravest anxiety. Drs. Blomfiield and McArthur were constantly in attendance, and on Tuesday morning meningitis supervened, and Dr. Harbison, of Maitland, being consulted, it was found, despite, the careful treatment of three doctors and two nurses, impossible to save her life, and she gradually sank and peacefully passed away in the presence of Rev. Father Kilgallin, Sisters of St. Joseph, and the family circle. Deceased, who was but 28 years of age, was loved and respected by all with whom she came in contact. Her pleasant and amiable disposition won for her tho esteem and respect of the whole of the members of the community. She was a loyal and devoted mother and a kind and considerate wife. She leaves a- sorrowing husband and three little, children, the oldest being only three years and three mouths old, to mourn their sad and irreparable loss. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, and notwithstanding the short notice was a record one, the cortege, being over half a mile in length. The remains were interred in the R.C. cemetery, Ellalong, the Rev. Father Kilgallin officiating, Members of A.H.C. Guild, G.U.O.O.F., and Cessnock and Abermain Friendly Societies' Association, the whole of which the deceased lady's husband, Mr. T. A. Gollan, is secretary, together with Miners' Federation members, marched in regalia, Messrs. M. Knipe and D. Hartcher (A..H.C.. Guild), and T. Homan and A. Little .(G.U.O.O.F.) .acted as pall-bearers. Profound, sympathy is extended to the sorrowing husband, and the demonstration of loyalty and friendship and brotherly affection in Tom's hour of trial is not likely to be forgotten, Wreaths were presented by A.H.C. Guild, G.U.O.O.F., Cessnock und Abermain F.S. Association, Cessnock Miners' Lodge, Sid Monks and Co., W. J. Lane, and Abermain Free Gardeners. The chief mourners were Mr. T. A. Gollan (husband), Mr. .J.' O'Haran (father), Mrs, J. Burrell (West Maitland), Mrs. H. Watson (Cessnock), Misses Agnes, Kate, Bridget, and Alice O'Haran (sisters), .Mr. J. O'Haran, jun. (brother). Mr. Alex. Gollan and Mrs. M. A. Gollan (Stanhope, and Braxton). brother and sister-in-law, respectively.
