Charles was born in 1907. He was the son of Sylvester O'Neill and Ethel Marlatt. He passed away in 1971.

WWII Veteran
Charles B. O'Neill, U. S. Navy veteran in the Pearl Harbor attack and holder of the Purple Heart for that and of 12 Bronze Stars earned in 21 years in the U. S. Navy died Saturday at the Veterans Hospital in Ann Arbor.
A resident here of 1003 Bjornson Street, he was born July 28, 1907 in Big Rapids and had lived all of his life here except his 21 years of service. At one time during his service his plane was shot down in the South Pacific and he spent several days on a life raft before he was rescues. He had served in the Asiatic and Pacific theatres, including the liberation of the Philippines. He retired from the U. S. Navy in 1946 as a Chief Warrant Officer.
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Joyce Hart, Indiana, Mrs. Peggy London, Middleville, Mrs. Jean Sena, Hastings, and Mrs. David Mangeau of Big Rapids; one son, James B. O'Neill of Hastings; five brothers, James and Lawrence of Big Rapids, William of flint, Leo of Portland, and Layton of Grand Rapids; and seven sisters, Mrs. Arnold Berg, Mrs. Catherine Spedowski, Mrs. Erwin Hornby and Mrs. George Cady, all of Big Rapids; Mrs. Laura Robinson of Flint, Mrs. Edith Holtzlander of Grand Rapids and Mrs. Joyce Hyneman of Indiana
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the Rogers Funeral Home, Rev. William McKnight officiating. Burial will be in Highland View cemetery. Military rites at the cemetery will be under the auspices of the American Legion.
