William de Oddingseles was a younger son of Hugh de Oddingseles and Basilia de Limesi.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10]
Hugh and William, sons of Hugh and Basile, were given in pledge in 1213 for their parents' payment of the fine to have Basile's inheritance.[11]
William was referred to as a brother of Gerard de Oddingseles.[12]
William married Joan [Unknown].[7][9][13]
A Pedigree in the Plea Rolls of 10 Edw II [1316-1317][14] recorded that William de Oddynggeseles was the father of William and grandfather of Edmund, Ida, Ella, Alice and Margaret.
Manor of Pirton, Hertfordshire:[2]… "in the reign of Richard I the lands of the Limesi barony were divided between his [John de Limesi] sisters, Basilia wife of Hugh Oddingselles, or d'Odingseles, and Eleanor wife of David de Lindsey. .... Basilia and Hugh Oddingselles, the immediate tenants of the manor, left two sons, William and Hugh, who divided the property and so formed two manors. William Oddingselles, who was lord of the manor of Solihull in Warwickshire, took that half which was afterwards known as the manor of PIRTON. Hugh's moiety of the property became the manor of Oddingselles (q.v.). William Oddingselles died in 1295, leaving as heir his son Edmund, who probably died without issue, as the manor was divided between two of Edmund's sisters, Ida and Alice. Ida was wife of John de Clinton, first Lord Clinton, Alice was the wife of Thomas de Caunton." (NB the Williams de Oddingseles who died in 1295 was the grandson of Hugh de Oddingseles and Basilia de Limesi.)
Manor of Solihull, Warwickshire:[3] .. "By 1242 the manor of Solihull was in the possession of William de Oddingeseles, youngest son of Hugh and Basile, and in 1250 he was given the right of free warren here. William was still alive in 1263, but was probably dead by 1271. He was succeeded by his son William, who in 1285 was claiming view of frankpledge with gallows, tumbrel, and assize of bread and beer. He died in 1295 and, his son Edmund dying immediately afterwards, his heirs were four daughters, Ida, Ela, Alice, and Margaret."
Manor of Maxstoke, Warwickshire:[4] ".. It seems to have come, early in the 12th century, to Halenath de Bidun and to have been given with his daughter Amice in marriage to Gerard de Limesi. Their son, John de Limesi, died before Michaelmas 1193, when his heir was in ward to Hugh Bardulf. ..... John's son, Hugh, was dead by 1213, when the barony of Limesi was divided between John's two sisters, Eleanor, wife of David de Lindesay, and Basile, wife of Hugh de Odingseles. ...The other moiety of the barony of Limesi had passed to Gerard de Odingeseles son of Hugh and Basile by 13 May 1239; and Sir Hugh, his son, was overlord of half the manor of Maxstoke in 1295. .... Meanwhile the whole manor was held in demesne by William de Odingeseles (a younger son of Hugh and Basile), who had been granted free warren there in 1250. In 1284 he claimed a court leet with gallows, tumbril, and assize of bread and ale and died in 1295, holding the manor, with Solihull (q.v.), of the two lords of the barony of Limesi."
