John Ogilvie was a United Empire Loyalist.
UEL Status:Undetermined
Date: Undated

John was born in 1751. He was the son of James Ogilvie and Margaret Wilson. He and his brother Peter were aboard "The Argo".[1] He received a 100 acre land grant at the Gut of Canso, near Manchester Township, Sydney County (now Guysborough County) in Nova Scotia.[2] The land was not suitable for farming, so John relocated to the Musquodoboit River area, and in 1789 sold his 150 acres of land at the Gut of Canso to John Graim [Graham?] for eight pounds.[3] He married Ellis Edgerton and had thirteen children. In 1827, a John Ogilvey is named at Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia.[4] He passed away in 1856 at Meagher's Grant, Halifax County.[5]
