From the Louisiana "Times-Picayune," 11 April 1876: "A man living on Plum Creek, Coryell county, named Sabert Oglesby, who is one hundred years old, was at the battle of New Orleans."

From the Nevada "Territorial Enterprise," 21 April 1876: "General Sabert Oglesby, who commanded the division of General Jackson's army nearest the river at the battle of New Orleans, is still living in Texas. He was one hundred years old last February." ___________

[Possibly the "Sabe" Ogilsby enumerated in the 1810 Beaufort Co. SC census [St. Luke's Parish], age 26-44. There is also an enumeration in the Newberry Co. SC census that same year for a "Sabred" Oglesby, age 45+, who was likely his father. The latter was also enumerated in Newberry in 1800 as "Saybert" Oglesby, age 45+, which would make his year of birth prior to 1755; this Sabert was also enumerated as "Seburn" Oglesby in the 1790 Newberry census. However, I find it more likely that this is the Sabert Oglesby whose family settled in the Green Pond, Bibb Co., Alabama area.--vto, 2007] ________________
