Biography

Nils (or Niels) Olsen was born at the Gukil farm in Høland in 1748 (baptised 6 Oct 1748). He was a son of Ole Bottelsen (Bottolfsen) and Berte Nilsdatter. His parents were married in Høland in 1736 and had several children born at Gukil, and sometime around 1750 is when the family moved to the Nøkleby farm in Trøgstad where a few more children were born, and in 1760 his parents were living at Hensrud in Trøgstad when the last child was born.

Nils had moved farther north to Ullensaker in 1778 when he bought a part of the farm Holm. That same year he was married to a daughter from the farm, Marte Børgersdatter. They were married on 14 Oct 1778 at Hovin parish in Ullensaker. His residence at the time of marriage was listed as Strønes in Trøgstad. They lived at Holm where they had four children: Gulbrand in 1779, Berte in 1782, Anne in 1785, and Ole in 1788. Marte died in 1792.

It is unknown where Nils or most of the children were in the 1801 census. Nils had a brother Berger and a sister Mette who were living at the Mungerud farm in Enebakkneset, and living with them was Nils' daughter Anne. Nils followed them to Enebakkneset by 1803 when he was married to a widow from the Nordre Teig farm.

Widower Nils Olsen from Holm in Ullensaker and widow Anne Nilsdatter from Nordre Teig were married on 26 Jul 1803. One of Anne Nilsdatter's sons, Berger Olsen, married Nils' daughter Anne a few months prior. After their marriage, the Nordre Teig farm was divided into two, with Nils and Anne taking the original residence (called "Veststua" in the Enebakkneset bygdebok) their children Berger and Anne taking the new residence (called "Øststua").

Nils' death/burial record has not been found, but he died sometime before his wife did in 1826, as she was listed as a widow by then. "Veststua" was later sold to the family of Torer Jensen in 1831.
