Elizabeth "Eliza" Orvis was born in May 1829 in New York, USA. She was the daughter of Francis Orvis and Zeruah Miller.
She married Philip Dundy (aka Dundey, Dundee), 1822–1859, a native of Pennsylvania, in September 1851 in Green County, Wisconsin, where her family had moved. [1]
The couple had two daughters: Mary Viola Dundy, 1853–1941; and Lenora Zeurah Dundy Cleaveland, 1857–1931. Mary was born in Green County, Wisconsin, and Lenora was born in Waukon, Allmakee County, Iowa. Their father was a "wagon-maker" and carpenter. They moved from Wisconsin to Allmakee County, Iowa, around 1853 along with Philip's parents and siblings. [2]
Alas, Eliza (Orvis) Dundy caught tuberculosis ("consumption") in 1858 in Iowa and she died there at only 29 years old on 28 December 1858. She was buried at the Dundey Family Cemetery, Waukon, Allamakee County, Iowa, USA.[3] Her husband, Philip Dundy, unfortunately also came down with the dreaded disease. He passed away from consumption on 2 October 1859, leaving their 2 young girls orphans to be raised by other relatives in Iowa. He was buried next to his late wife the Dundey Family Cemetery, Waukon, Allamakee County, Iowa, USA. [2]
