Biography

William was born in 1885. He was the son of William Owen and Norah Elward. He passed away in 1952.

According to William's WWI Attestation Form he was born near the town of Redbank (Victoria, Australia). His trade in the same document is Mill Hand. He served in France in the 13th Light Horse Regiment.

William receives notification dated 28 Nov 1919 (see WWI service record) that he has been awarded The Military Medal for bravery in the field: No. 4774a Lance-corporal W. O. Owen. Other medals in his service record are 1924 Victory Medal 2997, Victory Medal 3/40 No. 39434, British War Medal 3/40 No. 39958?, 1914/15 Star N.E.

Spouse: Eleanor Botilda Lond (1886–1948) and child Ronald William Owen Owen (1916–).

"Mr. WILLIAM OWEN. The death occurred of Mr. William Owen at the age of 65 years. Deceased was a returned soldier from the 1914-18 war, and resided in this district for many years. He was employed at Ruoak Timbers until his retirement. He was highly respected. The funeral took place from St. John's Church of England to the Alexandra cemetery on Saturday last. Rev. Batt conducted the service at the Church and at the graveside. Mr. T. Halligan recited the Masonic ritual. Mr. S. Reynolds (President R.S.L.) recited the Masonic ritual. Service men were the coffin bearers." ^[1]
