Biography

John Robert Owen was born on 25 December 1823 in Huntsville, Madison, Alabama to Ezekial Owen and his wife Volley Ann Burleson.^[1] He was the fourth of nine children.^[1]

Like almost all Owens, John Robert moved from state to state along with his family. Born in Alabama, he moved to Mississippi, then Tennessee, and finally to Texas.

He married Elizabeth Ann Rice while in Tennessee, and they were farming in Bastrop County, Texas by 1850.^[1]

They had seven children: Sarah Jane, John Robert Jr., Vollie Elizabeth, Mary Frances, Ezekial Thomas "Bud", Mark "ML", and Julia Ann.^[1][2]

John Robert died unexpectedly young on 23 June 1856 in Bastrop County, Texas.^[3] Elizabeth continued working on the farm until 31 March 1904, when she died.^[4]
