Biography
Riley was born on the 23rd of March 1912 to William Harrison Owens and Maude Bishop in Adkins, Arkansas. He was the seventh of ten children born to this couple with four older brothers, two older sisters, two younger brothers, and one younger sister. He also had three half-brothers from his father’s first marriage.
His family moved multiple times throughout his childhood, from Lick Creek, Little River to Barnes, Woodruff, to Siloam Springs. He married Florence Allene Gillihan on the 29th of January 1936; he was the last of his siblings to move away, remaining with his widowed mother even after his marriage. Together they had five children - Helen, Betty, Marolyne, David, and Gary.
He continued to move frequently after his marriage, across several states. At one point in time, he even moved back in with his mother due to lack of funds. He was listed as a farmer in 1940, though unable to work, then as a labourer at a wholesale oil company in 1950.
Finally he passed away on the 30th of December 1984 in El Monte, California. He was survived by his wife, children, and ten grandchildren at the time of his death. [1]
