Biography

No original source records can be found to tell us exactly when John was born but it must have been sometime between 1704 and 1723--a property record shows his father had no wife on 1 Oct 1703[1] We know John was born in Henrico County because his parents lived there until at least 6 Aug 1745[2] In 1728, Goochland was created from the part of Henrico County where William & Lydia lived. On 15 Mar 1744 in Amelia County, Virginia, John was granted 328 acres, on lower Side of Flatt Creek.[3] 21 was the minimum age to own property ; therefore, John was born 1723 or before. John's brother, Lansford, was a neighbor on Flatt Creek.[4] There are several property and other records from the late 1740's to early 1750's for a John Owens in Amelia and Lunenburg Counties but it's not clear if these are for our John or another John Owen. On 30 Mar 1753 in Halifax County, John's attorney entered a caveat against proving the will of John's father. It seems John's first name (but not last name) had (inadvertently?) been omitted from the court copy of his father's will.

Possible? Residence
5 Sep 1749 - Lunenburg County, Virginia - common property line with John Nicholds, Col. Richard Randolph, John Jones, Peter Hudson, and Edward Parker.[5]

No original source records can be found to tell us when/where John died.

While processing relationships in the gedcom some additional information was found which may be relevant (OR NOT).

In the following list, there are no names--only INDI #'s from the gedcom which no longer exists. The source cited was S238 page 167. But, if you try to go to the webpage given for source S238, you'll find that it has been removed.

Therefore:
1) without names, the list is meaningless. There is no way to tell if this was John's parents and siblings or if it was John's wife and children. or some other relationships.
2) Since we can no longer access the source, there is no way to verify the relevance or validity of the information.
