Walter was born in 1854. He was the son of Erastus Palmer and Mary Seamen.[3]

He was married twice. His first wife was Georgiana Seymour Myers, whom he married 25 November 1890 at Albany, New York. "Palmer-Myers. Albany, Nov. 25. --Walter Launt Palmer, the artist, was married today to Miss Georgiana Seymour Myers, daughter of John G. Myhers, a wealthy dry goods dealer of this city. The wedding which took place at Mr. Myer's residence on State street was attended only by immediate relatives of the bride and groom."[4]

On 9 July 1892, Georgiana died in childbirth. Her daughter, Jessie, died a day later. What a terrible and sad time for the family. "Palmer--At Saugerties, N.Y., July 10, 1892, Jessie, infant daughter of Walter L. and Georgiana Myers Palmer."[5]. [6]

His second wife was Zoe Marguerite Windham, whom he married 26 December 1895 at New Brunswick, New Jersey.[7]
