Biography

He was the son of John Pankey and Betty Powell. J. William Pankey accompanied his father from Halifax Co., VA to Richmond County, NC. In 1804 William Pankey moved his family from Richmond County, NC, to Sumner County, TN. He moved in 1807 to Indiana (after 1809 Illinois) Territory and settled near the Ohio River. In 1818 when Illinois became a state his original home site was in Pope (after 1839 Hardin) County. On 7 Feb 1823 William Pankey was "commissioned Justice of the Peace for Pope Co."
