William Patman was born in Cambridgeshire, England.

William Patman was born in Fen Ditton, Cambridgeshire, England in 1835 to James and Mary Patman (nee Salisbury). He was baptised at Fen Ditton on 19th July 1835 ,<Fen Ditton Church Records>. [1]

In the 1841 census William (age 6) was in Baitsbite, Fen Ditton, Cambridgeshire, England.[2]

In the 1851 census William (age 16), Ag Lab, was the unmarried son of James Patman on High Street, Fen Ditton, Cambridgeshire, England.[3]

On September 30th 1857 at 22 years of age, William departed Plymouth on board Immigrant Ship "Stebonheath" bound for Sydney. William Patman of Cambridge was one of the many single immigrant males listed as a Farm Labourer, his religion given as Church of England and it was stated that he could both read and write.

On February 27th 1858, after 150 days at sea William arrived in Australia.

On March 5th 1859 at St. Marys Church, Sydney, William, now age 23 was joined in matrimony to Bridget Dunn a 23 year old housekeeper from Wilmouth Street. Their first child, a daughter, Mary Ann was born in October 1860 followed by William 1861, James 1862, Walter 1864 all while living at South Creek (St. Marys ). Their youngest child, Bridget, was born on 28th December 1865. Unfortunately William and his children suffered the loss of his wife and their mother. Bridget Patman died on 9th January 1866 aged 31 years after only 9 years in Australia. Her death was due to puerperal convulsions following childbirth and she was buried on January 1866 at Regentville.

Now a Widower with 5 children William married at Parramatta , Jane Buckley (nee Clarke) a Widow with six children.

Their first child, Arthur Edward Patman was born at South Creek on 1st December, 1866.

Sometime, during the next two years the couple with all 12 children made their way to Mudgee where they settled. They were to have three more children John, Isabella Harriet and Clara Edith Jane.

William died at Mudgee Hospital on 8th April 1920. He was buried at Mudgee Cemetery in the Church of England Section (Grave Number 1247 - Row H.) there is no headstone.

Jane pre-deceased him , dying on 22nd July 1909,she was buried at Gulgong Cemetery, no headstone.

MR. WILLIAM PATMAN The death ocurred at Mudgee District Hospital at nine o'clock this morning of, Mr. William Patman, a very old and respected citizen of Mudgee, aged 87. The deceased had been an inmate of the hospital, for some weeks

Mr. Patman was born in England. He came to this country when a boy and took up residence at St. Marys near Penrith, where he was engaged as a carrier with the late Mr. James Lonergan. He was a fine, robust man, and was highly respected and esteemed.

Mr. Patman married twice. His second wife predeceased him by some eight years. He is survived by the following grown-up family:- William and James Patman (Dubbo), John Patman (Coonabarabran), Donald Patman (Cudgegong), Mrs. E. Sharpe (Gulgong), Mrs. James Harvey (Frome's Creek), Mrs. Henry Buckley (N.Z.), Mr. A. Buckley (Penrith), Mrs. Izzard (Penrith), Mrs. Hopping (Sydney), and Nurse Wright (Mudgee).

The funeral will leave Nurse Wright's residence tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock. The remains will be interred in the Church of England Portion of the General Cemetery. Mr. H. Barton has charge of the funeral arrangements.
