Charlotte was born circa October 1803 at Wotton, Surrey.[1],[2] She was the daughter of Hugh Pellett and Charlotte Amelia May. She was baptised at St. John the Baptist on Sunday, 20 November 1803 at Okewood, Surrey.[3] She presumably lived with her parents at Ockley, Surrey, in September 1805.[4] Charlotte lived in September 1830 at Hanover Square, London.[5]

She married John Oaten, a confectioner and pastry cook, son of John Oaten and Hannah Tamsey, in a Church of England ceremony at St. George's Hanover Square on Monday, 6 September 1830 at London. John was married two weeks after his younger sister Harriet in the same church.[6]

Charlotte Amelia Pellett was recorded as living with John Oaten in the 1841 census at Curzon Street, Hanover Square, London, and other records indicate this was her spouse. The 1841 census only recorded adult ages rounded down to the nearest 5 years; her approximate age was recorded as 35.. Also living in the house were two of their young children.[7] She presumably lived with her spouse John at Newland Street, in Belgrave, London, circa 1842.[8]

Charlotte and John Oaten may have become the parents of Charles Oaten on Saturday, 27 May 1843 at St. George Hanover Square Registration District, London.[9],[10] She presumably lived with her spouse John at Petersham, Surrey, circa 1848.[11]

Charlotte Amelia Pellett was recorded as the spouse of John Oaten in the 1851 census at 13 Jubilee Place, Chelsea, London. She was recorded as being 47 years old. Also living in the house were one of their daughters and five of their sons.[12],The London Gazette, London, England, Publication date: 2 March 1852, Issue:21297, Page:693 https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/21297/page/693

On 17 March 1852 John was to appear as an insolvent debtor:

COURT FOR RELIEF OF INSOLVENT DEBTORS. See Notice at the end. The following PERSONS, who, on their several Petitions filed in the Court, have obtained Interim Orders for protection from process, are required to appear in Court as hereinafter mentioned, at the Court-House, in Portugal street, Lincoln's-Inn, as follows, to be examined and dealt with according to the Statute: John Oaten, formerly of No. 4, Newland-street, Eaton square, Middlesex, Cook, afterwards of No. 10, Caroline street, Eaton-square aforesaid, Cook, then of No. 1, Park place, Petersham, Surrey, Cook at the Star and Garter, Richmond, Surrey, afterwards of Kew Foot-lane, Richmond aforesaid, Cook, then of No. 4, Cambridge place, Paddington, Middlesex, Cook to her Majesty's 2nd Regiment of Life Guards, and now of No. 13, Jubilee-place, Chelsea, Cook to Mr. Win. Walter Mabey, of No. 33, New Bond-street, Middlesex, Turtle Dealer.[13]

Give John's insolvency, it isn't surprising that they sought to emigrate to the Colonies[14]

Charlotte and her husband John emigrated with their six children from London on 30 December 1853 on the the barque 'Luconia.[15],[16]' Charlotte and her husband John arrived at Melbourne on 12 June 1854.[17],[18]

The immigration records have her name as 'Charlotte Anna.[19]' She presumably lived with her spouse John at the Melbourne suburb of Collingwood in June 1855.[20]

Charlotte, as the mother of the bride, along with John may have attended the wedding of Amelia and Peter Godwin Leith, a clerk, in a Church of England ceremony at St. Peter's on Saturday, 30 June 1855 at Melbourne. Amelia was 19 and her husband Peter was 28.. . Peter and Amelia went on to have nine children together.[21] She presumably lived with her spouse John at at 17 King William Street in the Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy in 1858. They had moved from this address by 1861.[22],[23] She presumably lived with her spouse John at at 38 Oxford Street in the Melbourne suburb of East Collingwood in 1862.[24]

Charlotte died at home on 12 July 1862 at at Oxford Street in the Melbourne suburb of East Collingwood.[25]
