Biography

John was born in 1782.^[1] He was the son of Joseph Penley (1756-1844) and Esther Fogg (1754-1796).

He married Desire Dingley (1783-1834) in 1802.^[2] They were the parents of the following children, according to FamilySearch:

He died 10 Jan 1873. He is buried in Penley Corner Cemetery in Androscoggin, Maine.^[6]

His will named his wife Julia Ann; sons Josiah, Albert M., Charles, Isaiah V, Reuben H., John, jr, deceased, William D., deceased, Rufus, Seward, and Winfield; and daughters Sarah D. Crockett, deceased, Esther Waterhouse, Minerva Hackett, deceased, Louisa V. Garcelon, Caroline M. Peables, Lucy J. Leighton, and Lydia A. Wagg.
