Josephine was the youngest of eight children. The first four were born in Italy, and the last four in America. Her parents established, owned and operated Pepe's Bakery in Amsterdam, New York and she worked there, helping her parents, as a child. I only knew her as "Dolly." She spoke often of her first born child, Regina. She had a photo of Regina at about 4 years old. I regret that the photo is gone. Dolly also spoke often of her parents. When she was about 25 years old, she cared for her father until his death.
Dolly was not married to Paul LaDeaux, a tree trimmer, but she took his name. Her husband, Clifford Ruth Sr., was sent to prison and she didn't think that he would agree to grant her a divorce.
