Solomon Perkins was born on July 16, 1729, in Groton, Connecticut.[1] The son of Luke Perkins, he was baptized on August 24, 1729.[2]
Solomon lived at "Long Cove, on the Point".[2]
He was married to Deborah Lester.[1]
Solomon was a militia lieutenant in 1768.[2] He served as a Captain under Colonel William Ledyard in the Connecticut Militia during the American Revolutionary War.[1] On September 6, 1781, he was wounded at the Battle of Groton Heights.[3][4] In REVOLUTIONARY WAR, VOL. XXVIL, Doc. 76, his injuries at Groton Heights were detailed as:
Capt SOLOMAN PERKINS a volunteer wounded in the fort with a mufket ball through the neck and arm an other through his fide, and fundry thrufts of the bayonet through the Stomach &c which has caufed nervous irritations spafams &c and rendered him unable to perform hard labour.[2]
Solomon's 22-year-old son Simeon (baptised June 15, 1760) was killed at the Battle of Groton Heights.[2]
Solomon died on November 4, 1809, at age 81.[1] He is buried at Starr Burying Ground Cemetery in Groton, New London County, Connecticut.[5]
