Biography

Alfred John Petitpas was born on 24 November, 1888 to Benjamin and Margaret Petitpas (Petitpas-336 and Manette-6) at Nova Scotia, Canada (probably Larry's River).

The 1891 Census recorded John Pettipas, 1, living with his parents, Bengaman, 36, Fisherman, and Margret, 24 (who could both read and write), and brother Charles, 5, at Larry's River, Guysborough, Nova Scotia[1].

The 1901 Census recorded Alfred J. Pettipaws, 12, born 24 November, 1888, living with his parents, Ben, 45, born 10 March, 1856, and Maggie, 33, born 29 January, 1868, and siblings Charles, 15, born 1 June, 1885, Katie E., 10, born 14 September, 1890, May D., 8, born 30 April, 1892, and Jeffrey E., 3, born 13 August, 1898, at Larry's River, Guysborough, Nova Scotia[2]. They were household number 32 on the Census.

The 1911 Census recorded Alfred J. (mis-indexed Junior, but "J" on the Census) Pettpas, 21, born September, 1890, living with his brother Charles B., 20, born June, 1891, Fisherman, and Charles's wife Lucy, 21, born October, 1890, and siblings Catherine, 19, born April, 1892, May, 17, born April, 1894, Archie, 14, born Aug, 1897, and Arthur, 9, born July, 1902, at house 28, Larry's River, Guysborough, Nova Scotia[3]. The initial for Charles is "B" here, instead of "W", but it is probably "B" for Bill. Next door in house 29 was Alfred's mother Margaret's household.

Alfred Pitts's mother died on 25 September, 1945, and her obituary stated that she was survived by 5 sons, one of whom was Alfred Pitts of Larry's River, so we know he was living in Larry's River in 1945 and that he died after September, 1945.
