Biography

It was believed that Adam had died in Reed City, Michigan, in 1912. However, while looking into old Census records pertaining to my other Great grandfather, Anton Nimcheski (Niemczewski), I found Adam not only alive in 1920, but, living next door to the Nimcheski family, in Newkirk Township, Lake County, Michigan. Thanks to the 1920 Census. Mary Piekuta had married Edward Kotarski, in Luther, Michigan, back in 1903, and the Nimcheski family settled in Luther, after Immigrating to the US from Poland, via Ellis Island, in April of 1908. Adam died in Lake County, Michigan, in 1926, and is supposed to be buried some where in Reed City.

"This is the only information we had on your 2X great grandfather when we were doing research on him. Pieputa, Adam b. Dec 1853 in Poland; d. 7-10-1926 at Chase. Buried in the Poor Farm Section.

The Poor Farm was a house in Chase, Michigan that housed Poor People. They could stay there rent free as long as they contributed to the farming or household chores. The Death Record shows that he was a farmer so he probably helped with the farming to help the other people that lived there. Also shows that he died of lack of nourishment with something to do with his throat swelling. Probably a food allergy as we know it today. I believe there were about 20-30 people living there at any given time. It closed down in 1942 and people that lived there had to be relocated to other places. The ones that died there were buried in the Poor Farm Section of Chase Township Cemetery, with a burial plot and burial provided by the County. There are no markers in that section. It's just several plots with several people in there."
