William and Elizabeth (Harris) Pike and their five children - Edwin (aged about 8), Charlotte (aged about 5), Sarah (aged about 3), Mary (aged about 2) and Alfred (under a year old), sailed from Gravesend, England to New Zealand on the Gertrude, in 1841. Alfred died within a year, apparently. (See passenger list for ship Gertrude in references below.)
