Joseph was born in 1849. Joseph's birth was registered in the Apr-May-Jun quarter of 1848 in the Sunderland district.^[1] In the 1861 census Joseph (age 12) was the son of Indiana Pile in Bishopwearmouth, Durham, England.^[2] In the 1871 census Joseph (age 22) was the son of Indiana Pile in Bishop Wearmouth, Durham, England.^[3] In the 1881 census Joseph (age 32), Butcher, was the son of Indiana Pile at 26 Olive St, Bishopwearmouth, Durham, England.^[4]

Joseph (age 34), son of Joseph Pile, married Emma Jane Palmer on 25 October 1886 in Houghton Le Spring, Durham, England.^[5][6] In the 1891 census Joseph (age 38) was the head of household in Bishop Wearmouth, Bishop Wearmouth, Durham, England.^[7]

Joseph died on 13 December 1898 in Sunderland. He was living at 17 Olive-street Sunderland.
