The Franklin Evening Star, 9 /Dec 1938, Fri, pg 2 Harry Pittman, 63, Dies in Memphis Harry Pittman, age 63, died Thursday morning in a Memphis, Tenn., hospital following a three years' illness. He was a former resident of Franklin and the father of Mrs. John Wooley. The body will arrive from Memphis on the 9:45 Pennsylvania train Friday evening and will be taken to the Flinn funeral home, where services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:30. Burial will be in Greenlawn cemetery. … The body will be accompanied by the daughter, Miss Sally Ann Pittman, and son, Edgar Nelson Pittman, of Oakdale, La., and a sister, Mrs. O. P. Cobb of Memphis, Tenn. Mr. Pittman was born in Franklin, Jan 16, 1878, [stone shows 1875] the son of the late Nelson and Elizabeth Small Pittman. The elder Mr. Pittman was engaged in the lumber business in Franklin. About forty years ago the Pittman family moved to Memphis, Tenn. Harry Pittman was educated in the Franklin public schools and attended Franklin College. He was a member of the Franklin Presbyterian church. On Oct. 17, 1900, he was united in marriage to Miss Norma Brewer, daughter of Edgar and Sally Ann Brewer, of Whiteland. Mrs. Pittman preceded her husband in death June 23, 1938. Mr. Pittman was employed with the Hillyer, Deitsch, Edward, Inc, lumber company at Oakdale, La., until three years ago, when he suffered a stroke from which he never fully recovered….. Harry was born in 1875. He was the son of Nelson Pittman and Elizabeth Small. Harry Luyster Pittman passed away in 1938, and was buried at Greenlawn Cemetery, Franklin, Johnson County, Indiana.^[1]
